the Count is Down
The Count is dead, and panic has spread through the estate. Six suspects each tell their side of the story—but one is a cold-blooded murderer, and another simply has a terrible memory. Piece together overlapping testimonies, uncover the contradiction, and expose the killer before the clock strikes midnight. Fail... and the town gets a public execution anyway.
The Crown believes incompetence is a greater crime than murder. You will be hanged if you fail to identify the correct killer.
the Count is Down is planned to be a bite-sized detective deduction game where every case is a procedurally generated logic puzzle based around a scenario.
For now, the one case available is handcrafted due to the GMTK Jam's deadline, but our main plan was to develop a system which will randomly generate the entire case as a Constraint-Solving Problem.
Each investigation features six suspects:
- Maid
- Butler
- Guard
- Doctor
- Wife
- Son
Exactly one suspect is the murderer.
Exactly one different suspect is forgetful—they never lie, but they accidentally remember one small detail incorrectly.
Everyone else tells the truth.
Your job is to read each testimony, compare who saw whom, where they were, and when events happened. Truthful witnesses naturally support each other's stories, while the killer slips up with one deliberate lie that doesn't fit once the forgetful witness's mistake is accounted for.
No hidden clues. No random guessing. Just pure deduction.
Each playthrough generates a brand-new murder with a different timeline, motive, killer, and contradiction to solve.

This is a really cute idea. I'm really curious how you would've made the case procedurally generated. I see the potential. Keep it up!
